Patterson Adult Education is an alternative education program provided by the State of California through the Patterson Unified School District. A program is offered through which adults (people over 18 years of age) can earn a high school diploma granted by the State of California. The diploma is awarded upon completion of 190 units and the passing of the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). Students must complete 38, five unit courses in a variety of areas (such as history, English, math, science and electives.) The time involved depends upon the number of courses needed and the rate at which each student works. There is no time limit. Students work in an independent study environment supervised by experienced credentialed teachers. Sessions are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm in room 505 of the science buiding on the Patterson High School campus. Classes begin in September and run until mid May. Notices are put in the Patterson Irrigator near the beginning of class with the exact beginning date. Beginning in January 2006, all students receiving a high school diploma in California must pass the California High School Exit Exam. (CAHSEE) The Patterson Adult Education program provides teachers that teach math and English courses specificaly designed to prepare students to pass the exam. These tests are given in November, February and May. Adult Education students may take the thest regardless of the number of units they have completed. There is no limit to the number of times students can attempt the test. The test is scored by the State of California and results are available about 2 months after the test.
